Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Bishkek

  • Arrive at Manas International Airport and transfer to your hotel.
  • Optional: Take a city tour to discover Bishkek’s Soviet-era architecture, lively markets, and beautiful parks.
  • Evening: Enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant, where you'll receive a trip briefing and engage in a discussion about photography.

Day 2: Bishkek → Song-Kol Lake

  • Set off early for Song-Kol, a stunning high-altitude lake nestled among rolling hills.
  • Make stops for landscape photography along the picturesque mountain roads.
  • Arrive at a traditional yurt camp and document the everyday life of nomadic people.
  • End the day with a sunset photography session by the lake, followed by a chance to capture the night sky with astrophotography.

Day 3: Song-Kol – Nomadic Life & Portrait Photography

  • Start the day with a golden hour session capturing herding scenes, grazing livestock, and stunning panoramic views of the lake.
  • Visit a local shepherd’s yurt to engage in portrait photography of nomadic families.
  • Take documentary-style photos of daily activities in the nomadic lifestyle.
  • End the day with a sunset shoot followed by a stargazing session.

Day 4: Song-Kol → Naryn

  • Enjoy a scenic drive through the 32 Parrots Pass, taking in breathtaking mountain views.
  • Make stops for landscape photography and to capture the beauty of waterfalls.
  • Arrive in Naryn, check into your hotel, and take some time to explore the town’s cultural sites.
  • In the evening, gather for a group review of photos and a discussion on composition techniques.

Day 5: Naryn → Kel-Suu Lake

  • Travel to the secluded Kel-Suu Lake, navigating through stunning valleys and expansive steppe landscapes.
  • Document the pristine wilderness and traditional nomadic communities along the route.
  • Evening: Capture the sunset at Kel-Suu, followed by a night photography session showcasing the Milky Way.

Day 6: Kel-Suu – Adventure Photography

  • Start the day with an early morning horseback ride to the lake for breathtaking sunrise shots.
  • Photograph the reflections in the turquoise waters against the dramatic cliffs.
  • Enjoy a boat ride for unique perspective images. In the late afternoon, hike to a high viewpoint for an impressive wide-angle composition.
  • Night: Engage in astrophotography with long-exposure captures.

Day 7: Kel-Suu → Naryn

  • Enjoy a leisurely morning capturing documentary-style photographs of yurt life and herding.
  • On the return drive to Naryn, we will make stops for stunning landscape and wildlife photography.
  • Spend the night at a comfortable hotel, with free time for editing photos and engaging in discussions about photography.

Day 8: Naryn → Bokonbaevo Village (Issyk-Kul Lake)

  • We will drive to Issyk-Kul, taking breaks at scenic viewpoints along the way.
  • Meet an eagle hunter for an exciting photography session focused on hunting techniques.
  • Visit Kyzyl-Tuu village to learn about and photograph the traditional art of yurt-making.
  • Conclude the day with a sunset portrait session featuring eagle hunters in the beautiful valley.
  • Overnight stay in a guesthouse in Bokonbaevo.

Day 9: Bokonbaevo – Canyon Photography

  • Discover the stunning Fairy Tale Canyon (Skazka) and Mars Canyon, known for their striking rock formations.
  • Experiment with light and shadow in Aksay Canyon.
  • Enjoy a sunset photography session along the shores of Issyk-Kul.
  • Head back to the guesthouse for a relaxing evening.

Day 11: Karakol → Karkyra Valley

  • Travel to Karkyra Valley, renowned for its expansive green meadows and untouched landscapes.
  • Meet a local family to learn about traditional dairy production and experience rural life.
  • Enjoy a sunset photography session in the valley.

Day 12: Karkyra → Sary-Jaz Valley Camping Experience

  • Drive through the secluded Sary-Jaz Valley, capturing the dramatic mountain scenery.

Day 13: Sary-Jaz → Karakol

Day 14: Karakol → Bishkek (Final Day)

What Clothes?

  • Thermal underwear
  • Good quality fleece pullovers and trouses-100% polyester
  • A good rain/windproof jacket with a hood and trousers
  • Good quality socks with cushions and climate control (several pairs).
  • Lightweight trousers (the combat style is the most practical, especially the ones that unzip to make shorts) for walking
  • One pair ankle length boots/or walking shoes with a good grip profile. We recommend ‘cortex’ as it is light and breathable, though leather is better in wet and snowy weather. Please ensure you have ‘broken’ the boots in, new ones could cause aggravation.
  • Fleece hat with earflaps and sun hat.
  • You may like to bring a pair of rubber slippers/flip flops to pad around in.
  • Swimming suit/shorts (you may like to cool off in the streams on the walks)
